For Christians, the word of God is sacred and therefore deserving of celebration in many forms. One of the most beautiful was the illumination of books from the Middle Ages. Dr. Elizabeth Morrison of the Getty Museum will explore these manuscripts through the millennia, considering books made for heads of state, monks and nuns, and faithful Christians across Europe. Dr. Morrison will also explain the complicated and expensive process of medieval book-making, with specific reference to the creation of The Saint John's Bible. Join us to learn about the continuing relevance of the illuminated book.
Presenter: Dr. Elizabeth Morrison, Senior Curator of Manuscripts at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
