Pillars of the Community needs your help

Pillars of the community (POTC) is an organization dedicated to helping those affected by the criminal justice system and one of our 2020 Racial Justice Grant recipients POTC is looking for volunteers to help with their court monitoring program.

Volunteers for this program will be trained to sit in via livestream or in person, on court proceedings to ensure that judges, prosecutors, and public defenders are all acting justly within the system. After a 2-hour training provided by POTC, volunteers will be able to identify potential unfair behaviors and flag those for follow up from the organization’s Participatory Defense program. Scheduling is flexible and volunteers can chose which courthouses and cases to monitor.

Most of the volunteer opportunities fall during the work week, during court operating hours. For those who are not able to help during those times, POTC also needs Social Biographers willing to help write, edit, and compile social biographies that can help to vouch for those involved in the justice system. Separate training will be provided for this volunteer service, as well.
