Thanksgiving Food Drive Behind-the-scenes

Rod Schultz and his wife Barbara had been active volunteers in First Church’s Loaves and Fishes Food Ministry for 30 years when he passed away last November. In lieu of flowers, Barbara and their daughter Karen asked family and friends to honor Rod by donating to the Loaves and Fishes program through a Go-Fund-Me online campaign. Many responded generously. Thanksgiving was Rod’s favorite holiday, so it was especially appropriate to use these gifts to underwrite FUMCSD’s 2021 Thanksgiving Food Drive, in which hungry families in the Wesley UMC area of City Heights receive a bag of groceries just before the holiday. Thanks to Rod’s family and friends, Barbara (who remains active in Loaves and Fishes), and many others in our congregation who donated money, food, labor and time, we provided 300 parcels of “fixin’s”, many with a frozen turkey or chicken, to Wesley and a good helping of leftover donations to Water’s Edge’s food ministry, as well.
