The Ministry of Music, through its adult, children’s, and youth choirs is an integral part of the worship and discipleship ministry of First United Methodist Church. Every Sunday worshipers get to enjoy music played on the largest pipe organ in San Diego County. The ministry also sponsors the popular Cultural Events Music Series, community concerts and guest performances by nationally recognized artists and groups.
Midday Pipes series is discontinued in the 2023-2024 season. You can still watch past Midday Pipes concerts on our YouTube channel. There will be occasional daytime organ concerts open to in-person and online audience. Learn more about our organ and upcoming concerts here.
Adult choirs
THE CHANCEL CHOIR
September - June
A great opportunity to learn quality, sacred choral music from the past masters as well as music hot off the press. Musical performances presented during 9 AM Sunday morning worship services.
Weekly rehearsals:
Thursdays, 7–9 PM, and Sunday warm-ups, 8:15-8:45 AM.
THE JUBILEE SINGERS
September - June
Learn sacred choral music from a variety of contemporary styles. Musical performances are presented approximately once per month during the 11 AM Sunday morning worship services.
Weekly rehearsals:
Tuesdays, 6:30–7:20 PM.
THE CHAMBER CHOIR
September - June
The Chamber Choir sings approximately once a month at the 11 AM service. An audition is required for this ensemble, only to ensure that we have an appropriate balance of voices. This smaller ensemble will delight in slightly different repertoire than the Chancel Choir.

THE HANDBELL CHOIR
September - June
Boost your musical skills through the use of the Handbells. Musical Performances are presented approximately once per month during the Sunday morning worship service.

Children’s and Youth choirs
Choir and music programs for children and youth begin on Sunday, September 10, 2023. There are many special opportunities including singing with the San Diego Children's Choir, participating in worship and special events, and the Children & Youth Christmas Pageant. Prior musical experience is not necessary!
