Dismantling Racism: Racial Justice at FUMCSD

We’re honored to have our Racial Justice Ministry included in the Dismantling Racism study booklet that was recently published by UM Insight. We established the ministry in 2020 to acknowledge Christianity’s past and continued participation in racism over the centuries while seeking repentance and committing to a new way of community.
It’s encouraging to see the work by United Methodist Congregations across the U.S. to help dismantle racism. But there’s still so much that needs to be done. We encourage you to download the free booklet to contemplate how you can actively work toward dismantling racism in our country and beyond.
One place to start is by getting involved in our Racial Justice efforts, starting with learning about our Sankofa Pilgrimage. We have a community gathering taking place on Sunday, September 21 at 12 PM that will look back at the immersive learning experience we embarked earlier this year, which we titled “The 2025 Sankofa Pilgrimage: Midwest Migration – A Movement Toward Justice.” Attendees will also get a sneak peek into what’s coming up for 2026 and 2027!
We invite everyone to register join us, especially those who have been unable to join us on our pilgrimages! If you’re unable to join in person, we will also have the event available via YouTube livestream.
