Tithing vs. Planned Gifts

A tithe is a gift for current use
You may give to the church’s General Operating Budget, both as a one-time gift or as a recurring gift.

We encourage members and regular attendees to pledge. Pledge cards are available in the church office, online, or by calling Sharon Wynott at
619-297-4366, x122.

Your pledged commitment helps the church to effectively budget and plan our ministries for the calendar year.

Ways to Give

Gifts to the church may be made in several ways:

• Online giving via your credit or debit card
• Online giving as an electronic transfer directly from your bank account. 
• Giving to one of our weekly worship offerings. 
• Authorizing the church to process your gifts using your credit or debit card or an electronic funds transfer from your bank account. 
• Mailing your gifts to:

A planned gift focuses on future needs
It will help secure the continuation of ministries, create new programs and outreach, provide improvements of church buildings, and more.

Benefits of planned giving

Planned giving will not affect your current lifestyle and will cost you nothing during your lifetime. Different types of planned giving can provide tax benefits under the current tax laws. Remember, you don't need to have a large estate or to be wealthy to make a significant contribution to our Church.

Here are some examples of planned giving: 

• Charitable Gift Annuity
• Charitable Remainder Trust
• Pooled Income Fund
• Gifts of Life Insurance
• Gifts of Real Estate
• Gifts of Will

You may make a planned gift through the Church or through First United Methodist Foundation of San Diego.

The Foundation

The First United Methodist Foundation of San Diego is a California nonprofit religious corporation established in 1998 with the purpose of securing, managing, and promoting donations to First Church's Endowment Fund through Planned Giving.

How does the Foundation work?

Through the Foundation you can help provide for future needs of our church. We can suggest and give advice on Planned Giving in ways that suit your wishes for charity as well as benefits to your own tax planning. Learn about the Foundation and its Board of Directors...
