The Gospel of Matthew reads, “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,” which means, "God is with us." Christians know this refers to Mary and Jesus. This has been a large part in all of the creeds of Christian tradition. But where did that come from? Today we look at Isaiah chapter 7 and the way Judaism has understood this reference.
This is week 7 and we are talking about BLOOD! The blood of Jesus, the blood of sacrifices in ancient Israel, the blood used as protection over the doorway in the Exodus story, blood that protected the Hebrews from death, the blood of the lamb that became the blood of Jesus. Blood is life, but Christianity and Judaism differ in whose blood and how it gives life. Thanks for joining us!
