It can be hard to find space to listen for the voice of God. At Vespers, we invite you into the quiet beauty of our sanctuary, and into the timeless eternity of our communion prayers, as way of re-centering yourself in God in the midst of each week. 

Our church bells call us to attentive waiting during the meditative prelude at 5:15, and our worship begins at 5:30 as we encounter God's grace in scripture, prayer, song and sacrament.

This fall, special silent prayers invite us to be still and listen for God's Word, together.  All are welcome in worship and at the communion table.

The first Wednesday of the month the service concludes with prayers for healing. The final Wednesday includes prayers and candle lighting for peace.

Upcoming Music in Vespers We are delighted that for the next several weeks there will be special musical dimensions to our Wednesday afternoon Vesper Communion services. Many of you make Vespers part of your pre-Lent and Lenten journey. Plan, if possible, to be here by 5:15 PM to hear the special preludes.
February 8 and 15	Daniel Burton will play the prelude, beginning at 5:15, sharing several of his recently published arrangements of familiar hymns for piano. Dan was for 30 years Resident Organist at First Church and composed our Vesper liturgy. It is a joy to welcome him home.
February 22	Ash Wednesday Communion and Imposition of Ashes, followed by a congregational dinner, with Mark Feldmeir, pastor of San Dieguito UMC as guest speaker. This marks the beginning of Lent.
March 14	Lycoming College Choir, Dr. Fred M. Thayer, Jr., conductor (father of Jeff Thayer, concertmaster of the San Diego Symphony), will sing during the prelude and Vesper service, and then a concert at 7 PM in the sanctuary. Lycoming College is a United Methodist liberal arts college in Williamsport, PA.
March 21	Tyler Sanders, tenor, and Anthony Whitson-Martini, bass, will sing during the prelude and in the course of the service. They are two of our three interns from Point Loma Nazarene University.
