Traditional Sunday Services
8:00, 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. in the Sanctuary
Sunday services in our Sanctuary offer First Church’s most traditional worship. Our pastoral staff, led by Jim Standiford, present dynamic sermons related to our lives and the events of today in our communities and around the world. The service follows the rich tradition of Christian worship as the sermons and scriptures from the Old and New Testaments are presented.
The Spanish neo-gothic architecture and acoustics of our Sanctuary provide a wonderful space for worship music. Our fully graded choir ministry, three children's choirs, youth choir, two adult choirs — The Chancel Choir and The Contemporary Singers — and professional Vocal Quartet offer a variety of inspiring music related to the theme and Scriptures of the day. Our Sanctuary pipe organ (the largest in the county) accompanies vibrant congregational and choral singing.
First Church offers a wonderful and nurturing children’s program and frequently we are blessed with special music offerings by our children and youth choirs.
We provide worship activity folders (Kid’s Kits) for children (3-6 and 7-12) attending these services with their parents and on the last Sunday of the month the children are in worship for the entire service and have a special Children’s Time on the chancel steps with our pastor. (Of course, children are welcome in the worship service every Sunday.)
We also celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month at the 8:00 a.m. service, each Sunday at 10:40 in Trotter Chapel, and at other times throughout the year at the 9:30 and 11:00 services. The sermon, the lessons, the music—are all powerful and stirring offerings to the Glory of God
