The Singles Ministry at First United Methodist Church provides Biblical teaching, opportunities for Christian service, recreation and fellowship that enable a deeper commitment to Christ, while building meaningful friendships in a nurturing environment.

SINGLES NEWS:
A weekly digest of events for single adults.

New Concepts for Singles (40s and 50s) meets every Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Linder Hall for a meal. On the first Friday of the month we view a movie followed by a discussion. On the second and fourth Fridays of the month we have game nights (bring your favorite game or ideas). We also have our own Ping Pong table for tournaments. On the third Friday of the month we have a great guest speaker or special event. Cost is $6. Walk-ins are welcome. Child care will be provided if it is reserved by noon Thursday.

1st Friday: May 2, we will view the movie Amazing Grace, the remarkable story of William Wilberforce and his life-long fight to abolish the English slave trade, followed by a discussion. Menu: Swiss steak, vegetable, rolls, salad and dessert.

2nd Friday: May 9, Game Night. Menu: chicken casserole, rolls, salad and dessert. Please note that for this week only we will be meeting in the Sr. High Room (first floor of the United Methodist Center).

3rd Friday: May 16, speaker, Karin Donaldson will speak to us about "Spiritual Gifts."  Karin joined the staff of La Jolla Presbyterian Church in 1998. At present she is the Director of Adult Education and Caring Ministries. Karin is an ordained Elder, teaches Bible courses, Spiritual Gifts Discovery courses, Spiritual Formation classes, as well as Membership classes. Menu: taco salad, chips, salsa and dessert.

4th Friday: May 23, Game Night. Menu: chili, corn bread, salad and dessert.

5th Friday: May 30, program TBA. Menu: lasagne, garlic bread, salad and dessert. Please note that for this week we will be meeting in the Sr. High Room (first floor of the United Methodist Center).

Lunch Bunch meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 12:30 p.m. May 9, Chevy’s Fresh Mex, 1202 Camino del Rio North (next to Border’s Books in Mission Valley). Hosted by Lynda Bell. May 23, Hash House A-Gogo, 3628 Fifth Ave. Hosted by Rene Markley.

Book Rapport (open to all) meets the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Linder Hall 5 to discuss a current or classic book. Our selection for May 12 is A Thousand Splendid Suns Khaled Hosseini. All are welcome.
