Psalm 119:1-24 and Galatians 3:10-18

Let me Enter New Territory
Pamela Molohon

Each morning I start the day anew. I lie in bed for awhile, sipping a cup of coffee left for me by my husband who leaves for work earlier than I do. I pet my dogs and let my heart wander through prayers and thoughts. It is a wonderful time of day – a time of renewal unfettered by the worries and concerns and mis-steps of the prior day. The day is a fresh slate and I am open to converse with God and listen for guidance from the Holy Spirit for the day to come.

Lent is a time of anticipation and renewal. It is a time for me to explore new ways to improve my relationship with God and with others. God “... prescribed the right way to live; now God expects us to live it.” (Psalm 119: 4). I attend church, I take classes, I read scripture, I tithe, I volunteer. I let myself become comfortable in the pattern of my life and too self-satisfied that what I do is enough. I become bound up in my own “Law” of an orderly life.

Lent is a time to burst forth, to accept new ways to embrace God, to be open to what God wants from me, not what I want from God. Christ came into our lives to save us to the knowledge “We are all able to receive God’s life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing…” (Galatians 3:24).

Are my belief patterns enough? No. I must go beyond. I am called to listen more intently each morning. I must fully embrace a new Spiritual day, full of the promise that is Easter, salvation to a Life everlasting. My Lenten prayer will be “Oh God, Let me Enter New Territory.”

God is good.

I have been a part of the loving community of SDFUMC for over 30 years. My children went to the pre-school and that brought me to SDFUMC. I spent some time in Youth Ministry for SDFUMC. I now work as CFO for a company that sells and maintains aircraft, High Performance Aircraft. I volunteer at church on Church Council as Church Treasurer and on the Church Finance Committee. I live lovingly with my husband Mark and our two lovable dogs, Scooter and Chenille.

Prayer practice for this week:

Light your Lenten Candle and spend some time in silence.

Each Ash Wednesday the Palm fronds from last Palm Sunday are burned and the Ashes used to mark us on Ash Wednesday.

Read the following:

“Ash Wednesday
And we are on our way
To Your way.
O Lamb of God
Have mercy upon me and
Keep me from the smallness of my life
That would take precedence over
Kneeling in Jerusalem.”

from Kneeling in Jerusalem,

Reflect in your journal on the following and anything else that comes to you: What are the Ashes of your life? What does it mean, “We are on our way to Your way?” What does it mean to Journey to Jerusalem? How will this journey change me?
