Earth Care
Our mission is to empower our community to make environmentally friendly choices. Our projects have included installing solar panels on the roof of our United Methodist Center, gleaning produce from gardens and trees for our food ministry, leading educational events for our young people, distributing reusable shopping bags, and planting a low-water garden of native plants. Our monthly meetings (on the first Thursday at 6:30 PM) include study, discussion and coordination.
Our 2012 Earth Care Summer Film Series begins:
Thursday, February 2 — Vanishing of the Bees
6:30 PM in Linder Lounge—90-minute documentary, followed by brief discussion.

The biggest environmental story no one knows anything about: Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives. Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing hundreds of varieties of fruits and vegetables.
Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables.
Vanishing of the Bees follows two commercial beekeepers as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill nationwide contracts. Filming around the world, this documentary examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between mankind and mother earth.
All are welcome. Bring friends.
