SEASONAL PROGRAMS AND RELIGIOUS CREATIVE ARTS
Christian Education Sunday
All three worship services on this Sunday will have a focus on Christian Education for children, youth and adults, and Fourth grade children will receive their Bibles during worship. It is also Promotion Day for the children's Sunday School, plus registration for all Children's Sunday School classes (0 through Grade 6). In addition there is a Family Festival in the amphitheater where parents can receive info on many of the Children and Family Ministry programs, plus sign-ups for Children's Choirs and acolytes. Coffee, lemonade and goodies are also available. It's a must attend event!
All-Church Advent Event & Gifts from the Heart Workshop
This event is held on a Sunday evening just prior to Advent, or on the first Sunday of Advent. The whole church is invited to come share a time of fellowship and preparation for the coming Christmas season. It's a lively evening of decorating a huge tree in Linder Hall, a potluck meal, and singing Christmas carols. Prior to the Advent Event that day, the children's Gifts From the Heart Workshop will be held, where children can make small gifts to give to their family members at Christmas. the gifts range in price (cost to make) $1 to $5. At least one parent must accompany a preschool or kindergarten child who participates.
Vacation Bible School
Every Summer, generally in late July, First Church offers VBS for both Preschool/Kindergarten and Elementary Age Children. They are at the same time, but often both age groups have their own theme or focus. The elementary age VBS generally includes at least one element of the arts, and the preschool/kindergarten involves a set depicting some part of the theme, where children go each day to have a "hands-on" experience. No matter which age group your child falls into, all the children love coming to VBS and learning through experiential activities. It's fun!
