From Exile to Jesus

What happened during the 400 years that is missing in the Bible, known as the Intertestamental Period between the Old Testament and the New Testament?
Much of the beliefs and practices of the people of Israel were shaped by the events during this time, including the concepts of heaven and hell, God vs. Satan, and good vs. evil. Consequences from the Exile and the experience of living under the occupation of the Babylonian, Persian, Greek, and the Roman Empires influenced how they saw Jesus when the Messiah finally arrived.
Looking at the books of Nehemiah, Ezra, Daniel and the apocryphal writings of Maccabees to get a glimpse of the culture and events of this time, this four-week study during the season of Lent will guide us in understanding who Jesus is for the people of Israel and for us today.
