A First Church start-of-Lent tradition: Ash Wednesday Vespers communion worship with imposition of ashes, followed by a catered dinner, fellowship and an inspiring keynote speaker. This year we'll hear from Rev. Mark Feldmeir, senior pastor of San Dieguito United Methodist Church.

Begin Lent with worship, a meal and an inspiring message -- a long-standing tradition at First Church.

Vespers

Join Rev. Molly Vetter, organist Bob Plimpton and First Church clergy in prayer, the sacrament of Holy Communion, and traditional imposition of ashes.

5:15 PM Prelude music for meditation and prayer

5:30 PM Vespers worship

Dinner

6:15 PM Linder Hall is the place to gather after worship -- or after work or school for those who are unable to attend the service.

Cost: $14/person
Purchase Sundays at the patio table beginning Feb. 5, in the church office Monday - Friday.
Childcare by reservation is free -- sign up in the church office or online here.

Rev. Mark Feldmeir is in his sixth year as Sr. Minister at San Dieguito UMC in Encinitas. He previously served 12 years as Sr. Minister at Santa Margarita UMC in South Orange County, which grew from 35 to 300 in attendance during that time.

Mark is a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Claremont School of Theology, where he teaches homiletics, and the author of two books – Testimony to the Exiles: Sermons for GenXers and Other Postmoderns (Chalice Press, 2003), and Stirred Not Shaken: Themes for an Emerging Generation (Chalice Press, 2005).

In his free time, Mark enjoys cycling, hiking, and playing amateur baseball. He has been married to his wife, Lori, for 22 years, and has three children, Alyson, Casey, and Matthew.
