Premarital Counseling
Because First United Methodist Church of San Diego is committed to marriages and not just to performing weddings, the Center offers a comprehensive premarital counseling package to all couples being married at this or any other church.
Our goal is to provide couples the insight and tools to navigate their married life together in a mutually respectful and satisfying way. This package includes an in-depth assessment tool that provides feed back in areas such as; communication, conflict resolution, child rearing, financial issues and family of origin issues.
Couples complete an assessment instrument online. All that is required is the email addresses of each person. An email is sent from the survey company to each partner with a link to the survey. Once completed I am notified and can download results. The fee for the survey $29.95 per couple and is payable at the first session after completion of the survey. The couple then does a minimum of three one hour sessions with the therapist covering the results of the instrument and any other issues they feel are pertinent to them. The sessions are usually billable to insurance or fee arrangements can be made with the therapist.
There is a cost for this service which is discussed at the time of the first session to complete the assessment instrument. Ideally this process is begun at least six months in advance of the wedding date, but this is not mandatory.
Premarital counseling without the assessment instrument is also available to all couples who wish to invest in their marriage this way. Marriage is viewed as sacred and we want to help couples build solid relationships and marriages that last.
